Living creatively by Shelby Pine

There is beauty in creativity and those who create. I live creatively by seeking beauty. At times this is a challenge to seek in a world that is hurting. In these times we must seek, reflect, and grow. Recently I did just that when I decided to travel to Europe alone at 23. Initially I was frightened of the unknown, eventually this fear transformed into empowerment. One of my favorite quotes is, "You have to be afraid to be brave." I stepped outside of my comfort zone, met amazing people, saw incredible sights, and grew so much more than I could have ever imagined.
Life is so much bigger, it is so much more than what we trap ourselves in to through our daily lives. Most of us have a very hard time being present. In Europe I witnessed people living in the moment, working to live. Being present in the moment and enjoying where I am is how I live creatively. I draw inspiration from by others unique sense of lifestyle. Everyday of my life I try to challenge myself to become a better person and grow. In Berlin, Germany, an old man approached me and asked me what I was doing and why was I alone. After I explained the purpose of my travel he said to me, "Life is about becoming and not being."
In today's fast paced world we are constantly trying to speed up life and jump to the next chapter without actually appreciating where we are now. When we are lost, lonely, sad or confused we don't embrace those feelings. We try to numb them and forget, yet it is those feelings and the experiences we have with them that help shape us into who we are to become. Being present is necessary to living creatively. Find something you are passionate about, that is to live creatively. For me, I have always loved the arts. Starting from a very young age I danced. When you watch me dance you watch me breathe. It is how I express myself, convey my emotions and create. It is when I feel the most alive.
Music and photography are also creative outlets for me. With my camera I can capture the beauty that is out there and tell amazing stories with one picture. The last thing I am most passionate about is God. I do not think I would be the person I am today if it wasn't for God's unconditional love for me. I believe that He is the reason I can love others and find creativity in the places and people I surround myself with. I appreciate the beauty that surrounds me every day, and I am thankful. I am thankful for the castles and cathedrals in Europe, the rolling hills of Switzerland, the storybook setting of Prague, as well as the roof over my head, a sunset, and loved ones in my heart. Creativity is derived from viewing these moments, no matter how big or small, in a different light. Chose to be present. Chose to find a passion. Find what gives you hope, what is beautiful, what makes you smile, and you have found your creative being.
