Day in the Life of a Design Director at Nena & Co!
This week I'm traveling to our Antigua Guatemala office to work directly with our Marketing & Sampling team on some exciting Projects! Join me for the day to see what a typical Nena day looks like.
Morning
Karla, our Marketing Manager Came to pick me up at the airport, and of course we have a big day ahead of us, so first…Coffee!
Once at the office we got right to work, and there are several projects that I am looking forward to accomplishing this week so we go over the calendar and identify all samples that need to be completed during this trip and all products that need to be shot for marketing.
One of the most exciting aspects of designing for a sustainable fashion handbag brand is the endless possibilities in terms of one of a kind products. Every unique handbag and accessory is meticulously considered from concept, materials, and functionality. Prioritizing time for these types of visits where I work directly with handwoven textiles and contemplate the placements are what make Nena products truly distinct in the handbag world.
Afternoon
It’s lunch time before we know it, and at our office you can order lunch ahead of time with a menu that rotates daily. Our team went with homemade chicken tacos, including handmade tortillas! Mariana, our Junior Graphic Designer, surprised me with a fruit I have never tried before called a “Paterna”. She showed me how to open it and when I tasted it the texture was surprisingly soft and the sweetness was subtle. Afterwards we planned for the photoshoot that would be the very next day where we would be shooting our full leather collection in brand new novelty leathers.
Evening
After a few hours of curating textiles and leather colors for brand new product drops, I notice that it's time to go. Tonight the team will have dinner together for a chance to connect and check in. I feel incredibly privileged to work with such a talented team that has so much passion for every aspect of our work. It never gets old when hearing about all the life updates from our team while getting a chance to unwind after spending a day working on incredible products.
